Don’t visit Fort Lauderdale without reading these tips

By on February 24, 2019

For many people, when they’re thinking about visiting Florida, they automatically think about lying on the beach in Miami or hitting the theme parks in Orlando. But Florida has much more to offer, and Fort Lauderdale is one of these places.

Here are some tips to help ensure you have an amazing time when you head to Fort Lauderdale:

Hire a car

One of the great things about choosing to stay in Fort Lauderdale is it’s an affordable choice but also super close to a number of other cities and towns. To make the most of this, you should consider renting a car in Fort Lauderdale. This will make it easy for you to get more out of your trip, as you won’t need to constantly figure out how you’ll get to different attractions. Not to mention, there are some excellent deals available for car hire, and it will often be the more affordable option compared to using ride-sharing services like Uber.

Use the water taxi

Now that you’ve got your land transport ready, it’s time to talk about water transportation. Fort Lauderdale is also called the “Venice of America,” and when you explore the waterways, you’ll soon see why. The water taxi is an excellent way to get around, and you can lust over some of the incredible properties along the rivers. You can pay for one-way fares, but if you’re planning to use the water taxi a few times during the day a day pass is a good option.

Plan for beach time

There’s so much to do in the area that it can be easy to forget to plan for a day at the beach. However, this is one of the best ways to spend the day. The beaches in Fort Lauderdale are excellent, and you’ll usually find that they’re not as crowded as the beaches in Miami. For people who love water sports, the snorkeling here is amazing. You don’t need to go far to see some incredible fish, and you can just hire or buy a snorkel and some fins and walk right off the beach. Look out for tropical fish, sea turtles, and even lobsters.

Get out of Fort Lauderdale

While I definitely recommend spending plenty of time exploring Fort Lauderdale, there are also many amazing sights within a few hours drive. This is another reason why you may want to book a rental car– especially if you love taking road trips. Obviously, South Beach is super close, and this is a fun place to spend a day exploring.

Bringing the kids? Orlando is just a few hours away as well. And in Orlando, you’ll find some of the best and most popular theme parks in the United States. From Disney World to Universal Studios, Animal Kingdom to SeaWorld, there’s a theme park for everyone. Just be sure to book your tickets in advance so you won’t need to spend your morning standing in line.

Relax

We’ve all been on those vacations where you get home and feel like you need another vacation. This often happens when you try to pack in as many attractions and sights as you can. Instead, make sure you plan for plenty of downtime as well. If you feel like there’s still too much to see and do, you can always return for another trip sometime soon.

Plan a day at the beach, or relax, take a walk, and lie by the pool at your hotel. There are some excellent restaurants in Fort Lauderdale and plenty of relaxing yet fun attractions. Take a walk down the Hollywood Boardwalk, take a bike ride, wander the art galleries, or enjoy a long brunch.
