Top ways to reconnect with your spouse in 2019

By on December 26, 2018

As we move into 2019, one of your goals may be to reconnect with your spouse. With work, kids, financial stress, and all the other things that are packed into each day, it’s easy to wake up and realize you’ve put your romance on the backburner.

Here are some top ways to reconnect with your spouse in 2019:

Take a trip

When was the last time you and your spouse went away together without anyone else? If you can’t remember, or it was years ago, make 2019 the year where you prioritize these types of trips. Not only do they give you a good chance to unwind and get away from work and the kids, but you have time to talk one-on-one about non-children related things.

Whether you stay in Robin Hoods Bay, take a road trip and figure it out on the way, or go overseas for a big international trip, make sure that you plan at least one holiday together in 2019.

Use date night

There’s a reason so many married couples do date night- because it works. It’s a chance for you to reconnect each week or even every couple of weeks, and get some time alone together. It can be difficult to make time during the week, especially if you have demanding jobs and/or kids, which is why date night works so well.

Try something new

Are you constantly doing the same-old same-old dinner and a movie? Couples that try new things together are creating new memories, and you’ll be able to reconnect while you try something you’ve been meaning to try for a while. Whether you’d like to learn a new language, learn to waltz, finally master French pastry, or learn to SCUBA dive, couples that try new things together stay together.

Be direct

How often do you find yourself complaining about your spouse to your friends? Often, they won’t even know that they’ve annoyed you, which isn’t really fair. If you’re not happy about something they’ve done (or haven’t done), whining about it to other people simply does a disservice to both of you. Of course, we all need to vent sometimes, but one of the best ways to nip any problems in the bud is to be up front when these things happen.
