4 Tips for a Last Minute Holiday
By Simon Duncan on October 22, 2018
If you’re anything like me, you’re always searching for an excuse to go on holiday. Sometimes it can be fun and exciting to book a last minute holiday, spontaneously deciding to go away a few days before you head off on a road trip or a flight. Life can get really tiring with the daily grind, so a little vacation can be a great way to destress, spend some quality time with your loved ones and get to explore a new place. Here are my top 4 tips for a last minute holiday.
While far flung exotic holidays are some of my favourite types of holidays, sometimes you merely need to get away and it doesn’t need to be a trip of a lifetime. Staycations are a great way to get an affordable last minute holiday without breaking the bank. You can choose to stay in a hotel in your city or a nearby city and decide to explore the area like a tourist. So often we live somewhere and out of town visitors come and do things we’ve never even considered to do. It can be really fun to play tourist where you live and it can be a great way to fall in love with your area again.
2. Get a Package
Even weekend trips can wind up becoming very expensive fast if you factor in transport, food, accommodation and activities. That’s why buying a package can be a great way to save money without compromising on excitement. You can quickly book a last minute weekend break with barely any notice and then head away for an exciting, relaxing vacation. Packages often offer great value as the agent or website are able to negotiate bulk deals, ensuring that you get the best rates possible.
3. Be Open to Different Places
One of my favourite things to do is to head to Kayak.com/explore, punch in my current location, the dates I’m interested in traveling and checking out the different locations that are really affordable. You may wind up surprised by how cheap it can be to fly to an exotic destination. If you’re on a bit of a budget, look for somewhere where your money will go further – smaller towns tend to be cheaper than larger cities and developing countries will always be more affordable.
4. Be Flexible
The best way to save money on a last minute holiday adventure is to be flexible – if you don’t mind where you go, and don’t have anywhere in your mind you have to stay, you can be open to the last minute deals. Obviously if you can be flexible on dates for traveling as well you’ll be able to find a better deal but sometimes this is impossible when you work a standard 9-5 job. If you can be as flexible as possible, you’ll be surprised by how much you can save on a last minute holiday.
Don’t be put off booking a holiday just because it’s last minute, sometimes you can find incredible value and wind up on a fun, spontaneous adventure!
