What it means to be a traveler in 2017

By on April 10, 2017

Have you ever stopped and wondered what does it mean to be a traveler in 2017? And I mean comparing it to what it was 100 years ago, or 200 years ago. Few people do. That is mainly because we live in this day and age when almost all destinations are accessible, and getting from point A to point B is as easy as it has never been. Crossing the ocean was not for everyone, and flying was out of the question.

You have to admit that you have it easy nowadays. It no longer lasts two weeks to get across a continent. Not to mention that it is affordable to go all across the world. Not for everyone clearly, but we all know that prices for plane tickets are at their lowest when you plan a trip six months or a year in advance. There are a lot of advantages of being a traveler these days. And here is why.

You can go virtually everywhere

Few destinations are inaccessible, or barely accessible, like North Corea, for example. But why would you want to go there anyways? There is nothing to see. But apart from a couple of similar destinations, you can visit anything. You can just close your eyes and point on a map. Chances are you can go there. Want to go to the North Pole? Sure, no problem. As long as you have the means, few things can stop you. And that, in my opinion, is one of the most beautiful things when it comes to traveling. The world is your oyster.

Cheap means of transportation

Traveling, for most people, is happening on a low budget. That is the secret of affording to visit several destinations each year. That implies low-cost flights. If you like to plan ahead, you can find extremely affordable tickets. Yes, it is still relatively expensive, but you can’t expect to fly for free, can’t you? The point is that with a little bit of planning you can get tickets at half their price. So think ahead.

No bureaucracy

I am sure that you went at least once somewhere that required a visa haven’t you? A lot of countries still use them, and there is no way of you escaping that step. However, there are several states that release visas over the internet. That’s right. You can get a visa online. If you want to go to India, for example, all you have to do is submit an application for an e-visa. That’s pretty much it. You will get it in your inbox.

Passport photos

You don’t have passport pictures, and you don’t want to go somewhere to have them taken? No problem. You can do it from the comfort of your own home. You can find solutions online. Finding cheap passport photos that you can have taken standing in front of your webcam is a reality these days. You still have to pay for them, but you can stay on your couch while doing it. If that’s not convenient, I don’t know what is.

As you can see, everything is made easy for you. Planning no longer requires trips to the consulate or the closest superstore for passport photos. And that is just the tip of the iceberg. You can do everything online these days. From buying all your supplies to getting your visa. You have to admit that we live in a golden age of traveling. I am curious what will happen 50 years from now, and how much easier can it get. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.
